Kojori is an integral part of the new and old history of Georgia. Here are preserved ruins of Azeula Fortress (XI century), which has been an important stronghold over the centuries.
There is another landmark near the fortress – Memorial of the Cadets fallen for the Independence of Georgia in February 1921. It is a historical place, one of the last guards of freedom of the First Democratic Republic of Georgia: at the end of February 1921 Georgian cadets and students bravely resisted to the Red Army coming from Russia.
“Here, into the outskirts of Kojori, on 1921 II Georgian cadets and students fell on the fight against Russian expansion. Those for whom freedom was more than life. For their remembrance. Let it be as a candle for the reign of good over evil.”
